Walter Roland Hamer Sr. Jan. 21, 1922 -Feb. 8, 2003
WOODBURN – Walter Roland Hamer Sr., 81, died Saturday. Walter was bom in Newport, Ore. to Walter and Ethel (Gray) Hamer. He went to high school in Eugene and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. HeĀ married Patsy L. Douglass on Aug. 29, 1948. He went to O.S.U. and Chapman College in Orange, Calif, in 1965. He received a masters degree in Education. He was an educator and basket ball coach for 45 years and retired from Sprague High School in 1987, Woodburn High School in 1996 and North Marion High School in 2000. Walter was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Stephen Ministry, Oregon High School Coaches Assoc. and Salem Beaver Club. He lived in Oregon most of his life except for 15 years in Orange, Calif, where he was a teacher and coach.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy; daughter, Dianna Lee Fraser of Roseburg; sons, ‘Wally’ Hamer, Jr. of Gearhart and C. Douglass Hamer of Homer, Alaska; ten grandchildren; and three greatgrandchildren. One sister preceded him in death.

Memorial services were held on Sat, Feb. 15, 2003 at St Paul’s Episcopal Church 1444 Liberty St SE in Salem. Arrangements were by Restlawn Funeral Home.
